Ellis Franklin 'Pete' Arthur Sr.

Ellis Franklin "Pete" Arthur Sr., 80, of 512 Lynn St., Hurt, died Sunday, Nov. 2, 2008, at Autumn Care Nursing and Rehab.

Born Oct. 1, 1928, in Campbell County, he was a son of the late Ellis Arthur and Sally Davis Arthur. He was predeceased by two brothers, Paul Arthur and Anderson Arthur. Mr. Arthur enjoyed NASCAR.

He is survived by his wife, Alease Moorefield Arthur of the residence; one son, Ellis Franklin Arthur Jr. and wife, Shirley, of Scotland Neck, N.C.; two sisters, Lois Robinett of Keysville and Gloria Jean Matthew of Kenbridge; two grandchildren, Virginia Lilly and husband, Chris, and Susan Dimitriadis and husband, Nicholas; and two great-grandchildren, Meagan Lilly and Blaine Lilly.

Memorial services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. today, Nov. 4, 2008, at Colbert-Moran Chapel by Dr. Leonard Atkins and the Rev. Brian Faison. A private burial will follow in the Carl O. Moran Memorial Garden.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service today at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times at the residence.

The family suggests memorials be made to Spring Road Baptist Church, 2858 Spring Road, Hurt, VA 24563; or Altavista EMS, P.O. Box 1, Altavista, VA 24517.

Colbert-Moran Funeral Home, Gretna, is handling the arrangements.

Alease, I am so sorry to hear of Pete's passing. Everytime I think of Pete, I smile. He was such a special person and a good friend.
