Elva Carpenter Dawson

Mrs. Elva Carpenter Dawson departed this life on Tuesday, May 10, 2011, at Fairmont Crossing Nursing Home. She was born on Aug. 28, 1914, in Amherst County to the late Tommy Sr. and Ada Carpenter. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two sisters, Mabel Ware and Elizabeth Franklin and one brother, Tommy Carpenter Jr.

She is survived by two sons, Charles H. Dawson III (Edna) and Dwight Dawson (Lindale); seven grand-

children; eight great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be conducted 11a.m. Thursday, May 12, 2011, at Galilee Baptist Church with Rev. Ernest Scott as eulogist. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Her remains will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service. The family is receiving friends and cortege will assemble at 140 Spice Lane, Gladstone.
