Gloria Olivia Vladyka
Gloria Olivia Vladyka, born November 1, 1944, was called home to the Lord on March 1, 2022.
She is survived by her three devoted children, Peter Andrew Vladyka of Macon, Ga., Danielle Lee Hamlet (Kevin) of Forest, Va., and Tara Ann Vladyka and grandson, Cooper Jay (Steve Ferrell), of Rustburg, Va.
Gloria was born to Marcy Altschuler "Stan" and Bill DuHaime in New York.
Gloria started her career in New Jersey with Popular Services, known as J. Crew, where she was a supervisor/manager for over 20 years. While employed there she gained and mentored many friends who continue to reflect about her strong and fierce attitude.
She was a tough lady until the end, but had a huge heart for her family, friends, and pets. Especially her beloved dog, Sammy. She would often sit on her porch, admiring the outdoors while bird watching, especially her "Car-de-Nell" (Cardinal). Anyone who met her can recall listening to her stories for hours with that distinct New York accent.
Gloria had a special way with people. She never knew a stranger and when you did meet her you would eventually fall in love and receive one of her famous cakes. She would often bake for trash collectors, delivery drivers, mail carriers and the doctors and nurses.
We would like to say a very special thank you to care-giver Andrea Richmond who effortlessly and thoughtlessly cared for mom until the very end and to whom we are very grateful and thankful for. Additionally, we would like to thank Centra Hospice nurses and doctors, especially Brittney Locke, for the care provided during her most challenging time.
A private memorial service will be held.
In lieu of flowers we would like to ask memorial contributions be made to the Carter Craft foundation, local charities, or the Humane Society.
To our Mom, May you rest in peace, pain free, knowing you will be forever in our hearts and never forgotten. We say, See ya later.

I worked with Gloria when she first came to Lynchburg. She was a force to be reckoned with. She took a bunch of us and got us prepared to work for J Crew. She knew her job and made sure we learned ours. I was a little scared of her at first, but as years went by I admired and respected her. I´m so glad I got to work for her.

I too am the recipient of Gloria's friendship. I was lucky enough to be meet her when J.Crew moved from NJ to VA... what a spitfire! We spent many hours laughing together during those early days; and after. I am thankful Gloria is no longer suffering, but I know her loss here on earth leaves a huge void for all who knew and loved her. Praying for peace and comfort as I know the upcoming days will be very hard.

Tara and Danielle, I didn´t have the pleasure of getting to know your mom, but I know she was a strong, kind woman because she raised her daughters to be the same.
