Horace Franklin McDaniel

Horace Franklin "Mac" McDaniel, 71, of Forest, died Saturday, Dec. 26, 2009. He was the husband of Ann M. Winston-McDaniel.

Horace was born in Lexington, a son of the late Robert Lee McDaniel and the late Frances Ginger McDaniel.

Retired from United Insurance Company as a manager, Horace served his country in the U.S. Marine Corp during peacetime. He was a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church and Loyal Order of Moose. He enjoyed golfing and UVA football.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Neal P. McDaniel and wife, Stephanie, of Burlington, N.C., Steve L. McDaniel and wife, Lineki, of Salem, Dean S. McDaniel and wife, Melissa, of Vinton; a step-son, David R. Winston, of Blacksburg; four grandchildren, Jordan McDaniel, of Roanoke, Logan and Cierra McDaniel, of Vinton, and Anna McDaniel, of Burlington, N.C.; a brother, John McDaniel and his wife, Patricia, of Natural Bridge; a brother-in-law, R. Oneal McHaney and wife, June, of Lynchburg; a sister-in-law, Mary T. McHaney, of Naruna; and numerous nieces and nephews. Horace also had many special friends in and around Forest who were most helpful during his illness.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Dec. 28, 2009, at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg.

A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 28, 2009, in the chapel at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg by Franklin Vaughan. The family will receive friends following the service at "The View" at Pleasant View Baptist Church. A private family interment service conducted by Dr. Ricky Ewing will follow at a later date in Virginia Memorial Park.
