J'Nell Cotton Obituary
J'Nell Owen Cotton, 83, of Hurt, VA, passed away on December 8, 2024, peacefully at home. She was born on December 18, 1940, in Pittsylvania County, VA.
She had a love of learning about her Celtic and Irish lineage. She even had the opportunity to go and visit Ireland. She was a caregiver, which centered on her skill with the elderly and those with disabilities, and decided to get a degree as a nurse. After retiring from nursing, her caring and compassion continued through fostering children and adults. J'Nell also extended her love to animals of all sorts.
J'Nell was preceded in death by her parents, William "Blair" Owen and Edith Blair Irby; a brother, Blair Owen; adopted daughter, Reese Cotton; and two granddaughters, Kelly Fox and Becky Coleman.
She is survived by four daughters, Gayle Puckette and husband, Eddie of Altavista, Lillian Johnson and husband, Allen of Hurt, Elizabeth Fielder of Hurt, and Kathy Fielder of Hurt; one son, Edward Fielder and wife, Roberta of Altavista; one brother, Wayne Owen and wife, Vickie of Gretna; three sisters, Billie Jane Goodman and husband, Roger of Gretna, Patricia Owen of Gretna, Carlene Crews and husband, Buddy of Hurt; 12 grandchildren, Kelly, Becky, Lindsey, Drew, Zach, Stephanie, Travis, Brody, Jason, Zada, Phoebe, and Jack; 18 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
J'Nell was greatly loved by her family and will be deeply missed. Until we meet again one glorious day in Heaven!
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at 11 a.m., at the Altavista Baptist Tabernacle, 302 Frazier Rd., Altavista. Pastor W. L. Pillow, Jr. will officiate.
The family will receive family and friends on Saturday following the service at 68 Courtney Terrace, Altavista.
