JAMES BAILEY Obituary
James Randolph Bailey Sr., 87, of Cook Ave., Brookneal, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2010, at his home. He was the husband of Ruth Morgan Bailey.
Mr. Bailey was born in Campbell County, Oct. 18, 1923, a son of the late Leslie Vince Bailey and Lillie Henderson Bailey. He was a member of Brookneal Baptist Church and a veteran of the US Merchant Marines during WWII. He was a graduate of the National Institute of Dry Cleaning, Silver Spring, MD, owner of Brookneal Cleaners and co-owner of Ruth's Antiques.
In addition to his wife he is survived by one son, James R. (Butch) Bailey Jr., of Brookneal; one daughter, Joan Bailey Phelps, of Rustburg; two grandchildren, S. Michael Phelps Jr., of Rustburg and Amanda R. Phelps, of Wilson, NC. He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
The family would like to thank Centra Hospice, Gentiva and special caregiver Sue Rankin.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, 2010, at Henderson Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Matthew Killmon Jr. and the Rev. Herndon Jeffreys with interment to follow in Wesleybury United Methodist Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec.r 3, 2010, at Henderson Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Brookneal and at the residence other times.
Memorial contributions may be made to United Way of Central VA, 1010 Miller Park Square, Lynchburg, VA 24501 or your favorite charity.
