Jane Wood

1940 - 2025

Jane Martin Wood, 85, of Wilmington, NC, passed away on November 29, in Wilmington, NC. Born on January 13, 1940, in Huddleston, VA, Jane was a cherished teacher, friend, sister, mother and grandmother. Moving to Lynchburg in 1967, she quickly became a valued member of the community and spent over 30 years teaching at Seven Hills Academy, Sandusky Middle School, Dunbar Middle School and Heritage High School.

In addition to her husband of 62 years, Ernest "Chip" Merton Wood III, she is survived by her daughter Elizabeth Wood Pearce (Robert) of Yulee, FL, son Ernest Merton Wood IV (Donna) of Nashville, NC, grandchildren Ann Wood of Wilmington, NC, Lara Wood of Boone, NC, Blake Pearce of Fredericksburg, VA, and Abbie Pearce of Alexandria, VA, sister Mary Dalton (Gary) of Port St. Lucie, FL, and many nieces and nephews. Additionally, she is survived by her sisters-in-law Lisa Hancock of Lynchburg, VA, and Katie Clark (Richard) of Winchester, VA.

An interment service will be held at the Columbarium at St. John's Episcopal Church in Lynchburg, VA on December 12 at 1:00 p.m.
