Joan HUDGINS Obituary
Joan Russell Hudgins, 70, of Lynchburg died Saturday, Aug. 16, 2008, at Lynchburg General Hospital after a four-year battle with cancer.
Born Nov. 20, 1937, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Genevieve Russell.
Joan is survived by her husband of 51 years, Kenneth G. Hudgins; a daughter, Karin Blay and her husband, Andy, of Timberville; two sons, Ashby Hudgins and his wife, Stacy, of Forest and Michael Hudgins of Lynchburg; four grandchildren, Jennifer Graves of Richmond, Matthew and Michael Hudgins of Forest, and Leeanne Hudgins of Lynchburg; a brother, Dean Russell and his wife, Debbie, of Virginia Beach; and a sister, Faith Argyhris of Virginia Beach.
Although she was born in Covington, Joan grew up in Norfolk. After she and Kenneth were married, they worked as a meteorological team for two years in Barrow, Alaska, and later while living in Nome, Alaska. After moving to Lynchburg and raising her three children, she was the owner/operator of His N Hers Hair Center for 20 years, later working at Perscilla's.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, 2008, in Tharp Funeral Home Chapel, with the Pastor Mack Almond officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., prior to the service.
Memorial contributions may be sent to the American Cancer Society 2316 Atherholt Road, Lynchburg, VA 24501.

I was shocked and sadden to hear of Joan's passing. I knew her as a kid when she lived across the street from us (Waterlick Rd.). She cut my hair when she worked/owned His & Hers, and it was always a pleasure to talk with her while she cut my hair. I feel like I know all of you for she talked of her family frequently. I know for a fact she really loved her Husband and her children. My mother and her mother-in-law were friends until they both went to be with the Lord.
