Katherine Abbott Obituary
Katherine Hawks Abbott, 87, of Lynchburg, passed away Thursday, Oct. 28, 2010, at Lynchburg General Hospital. She was married to Julian Morris Abbott for 44 years before he passed away. Katherine was born May 24, 1923, in Bedford County, a daughter of the late Annie and Willie Hawks. She retired as a supervisor from Imperial Reading after 39 years of service. Katherine was a member of Forest United Methodist Church for 67 years.
Along with her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Dottie Mae Coleman, and her brother, Carl Hawks.
Katherine is survived by her daughter, Sandra A. Ooten; her son J. Maurice Abbott Jr., and his wife, Ruth; her two sisters: Geraldine Hatcher and Janet Farish; her three grandchildren, Timothy Abbott, Mark Ooten and his wife, Kelly, and Mary Ooten; her great-grandson, Logan Ooten; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 30, 2010, at Virginia Memorial Park, with the Rev. Bill Burleigh officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today, Oct. 29, 2010, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel and other times at the home of her son, J. Maurice Abbott Jr.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Forest United Methodist Church, 1150 Burnbridge Road, Forest, VA 24551, (434) 525-4025.
