Lois CAMDEN Obituary

Lois Winifred Camden

Lois Winifred Camden, 85, of Forest, died Monday, June 29, 2009. Born in Covington on Jan. 19, 1924, she was the daughter of the late William C. and Mary E. Clark Brown.

She was preceded in death by her late husband, George W. Camden, who passed away in May 2009; her eldest daughter, Pamela A. Beasley, who died in March 2004; only brother Floyd Q. Brown, in 1991; and sister, Eleanor M. Muterspaugh, in 1998. She is survived by two daughters, Catherine J. Diggs and her husband, Joseph, of Beltsville, Md., and Wanda H. Davis of Blue Ridge; one son, Gerald L. Hampton, of Lynchburg; three sisters, Virginia A. Bowling of Rustburg, Ruth C. Akers of Madison Heights and Phyllis M. (I.T.) Nelson of Chester; 11 grandchildren, Randall A. Leupen, David V. Leupen, Thomas B. Leupen and Damon W. Leupen, all of Sykesville, Md.; James C. Fore of Madison Heights; Joshua C. Fore and Justin N. Fore, both of Lynchburg; Sarah Elizabeth Chaplin of Madison Heights; Deana J. Cleary of Beltsville, Md.; Kelly A. Hess of Hanover, Pa.; and Andrew L. Hampton of Lynchburg. She is also survived by seven great-grandchildren, a number of nieces and nephews and her very loyal companion, "Oakey."

After a lengthy time as a working mother, she was a devoted homemaker and loving caretaker of many pets. Lois loved all animals and was a long-standing member and contributor to the United States Humane Society as well as many other charities. She was baptized in the Advent Christian Church in Clifton Forge.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Friday, July 3, 2009, in Spring Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Humane Society, 3305 Naval Reserve Road, Lynchburg, VA 24501 and The American Cancer Society, 2316 Atherholt Road, Lynchburg, VA 24501.
