Lucile Morris Campbell

Lucile Morris Campbell, 90, of Roseland, passed away Monday afternoon, Sept. 29, 2008, at Lynchburg Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Born in Roseland, Nelson County, on Aug. 26, 1918, she was the beloved wife of 63 years of the late Vernard Harrison Campbell, who passed away in 2002. She was also a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister. She was the daughter of the late Carrie Tinsley Morris and James Nelson Morris. She was also predeceased by a daughter, Barbara Campbell Harris; a brother, James Halton Morris; and a sister, Madeline Morris Ragland.

She was a long-time member of Jonesboro Baptist Church, a homemaker and one who enjoyed flower gardening and helping Vernard on the family farm.

Survivors include her devoted daughter, Carolyn Campbell Dodd and her husband, Robert, of Lynchburg; three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, Pamela Dodd Hughes and husband, Greg, and their children, Chelsea, Logan and Caitlin of Charlotte, N.C.; Lynn Dodd Canada and husband, Mark, and their children, Ross and Parker of Richmond; and Robert H. Dodd Jr. and wife, Cristen, and their children, Evan, Carter and Harper of Dayton. Also surviving is her sister, June Morris Clary of Skipwith, and sisters-in-law, Essie Sprouse of Lynchburg and Erma Miller of Richmond.

The Campbell family expresses their sincere appreciation to the staff of Lynchburg Health and Rehabilitation Center for their loving care for Lucile over the past eight years, to Dr. James Cure for his compassion and support, to her special care giver, Rashoun Watts, and to Kim Hill, RN, Hospice of the Hills.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, 2008, at Jonesboro Baptist Church, Roseland, with the Rev. Wayne Underwood and the Rev. Roger Wilcher officiating. Interment will follow in Jonesboro Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service and at the Campbell residence following the service.

Memorial contributions may be made to Jonesboro Baptist Church or to Jonesboro Cemetery Association, c/o Mrs. Mary Evans, 1184 Dickie Road, Roseland, VA 22967.

Byrum-Parr Funeral Home, Roseland, is assisting the family.

My deepest sympathy to you and your family. Your Mother will forever live in your hearts. I have such fond memories of our times together when Mr. and Mrs. Morris, your parents, Barbara and you would visit in Lawrenceville. God Bless.
