Morris Winston

Scott Sr.

Morris Winston Scott Sr., 83, of Lynchburg, died Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2008. He was the husband of the late Lovelyn Weeks Scott.

Mr. Scott was born March 17, 1925, in Bedford, a son of the late Hiram A. Scott and the late Lena Abbott Scott. He was the owner and operator of Scott's 5 and Dime, past president of Fort Hill Lions Club, a Mason, a Shriner and he proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was also a member of Quaker Memorial Presbyterian Church.

He is survived by his children, Sue Brammer and husband, Jim, of Lynchburg, Morris "Butch" Scott Jr. and wife, Linda, of Rustburg, Terri K. Hargis of Lynchburg and Berkley "Buck" Scott of Forest; eight grandchildren, Jay Brammer, Jill Ware, Jason Scott, Jon Scott, Jessica Hargis, Jeremy Hargis, Josh Scott and Jake Scott; and seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother, H.A. Scott Jr. and wife, Dot, of Lynchburg.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by a sister, Virginia S. Morgan, and a brother, James C. Scott.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 25, 2008, in Fort Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today, Sept. 24, 2008, at Tharp Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be sent to Gentle Shepherd Hospice, 22712 Timberlake Road, Lynchburg, VA 24502; and Shriners Childrens Hospital, 950 W. Faris Road, Greenville, S.C.
