Paul Thacker Obituary

Paul M. Thacker

Paul M. Thacker, 84, of Lynchburg, Va., joined his heavenly father on Thursday, November 18, 2021, at home surrounded by family. He is survived by his wife, June White Thacker of 65 years

Born on Sunday, October 3, 1937, in Amherst County, Va., Paul was a son of the late Wade H. Thacker Sr., and the late Louise T. Thacker. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold E. Thacker and Wade H. Thacker Jr.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Paul Gregory Thacker; a daughter, Mechelle Thacker Jones (Ed); grandchildren, Gavin Edward Jones (Brooke) and Cameron Wade Thacker (Natalie); great-grandchildren, Ashlyn Jones, Grant Jones, and Peter Thacker; and siblings Cecil Thacker (Jean), Barbara Zirkle (Bo), Raymond Thacker (Carolyn), and Betty Thacker.

Paul was a loving husband, father, and friend.

He was a member of Randolph Memorial Baptist Church and attended Thomas Road Baptist Church. Paul worked for Mead Corporation for 18 years, and later was the owner and operator of Standard Gauge Engineering. He traveled many miles for new rail construction, where he had a real talent for operating heavy machinery. His favorite piece of equipment to run was his backhoe. His greatest hobby was his passion for hard work, whether at home or on the railroad tracks. Not only was he an avid UVA sports fan but enjoyed fast pitch softball and coaching baseball. While working with the Little League and Connie Mack Leagues were many of his rewarding accomplishments. Most of all, his family was everything.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making memorial contributions to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 840692. Dallas, TX 75284, or your local youth sports organization.

The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. on Tuesday, November 23, 2021, at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory. A celebration of Paul's life will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, November 23, 2021, at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory.
