Preston Duval Garrett

1931 - 2024

Preston Duval Garrett, 92, of Lynchburg, passed away on Wednesday, January 31, 2024 at Runk & Pratt Pearls of Life.

Born on September 17, 1931 in Madison Heights, he was the son of the late John C. Garrett and Allie P. Garrett. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Judith Harris Garrett; brothers, Dr. Calvin Garrett, Wilson Garrett and Owen Garrett; and a sister, Lucille Boyd.

Preston was a Corporal in the United States Army from 1953-1955 in the 82nd Airborne Division. Following his honorable discharge, Preston embarked on a new chapter, contributing his skills and dedication to Norfolk Southern Railroad. His career with the railroad spanned years of hard work and commitment, ultimately culminating in a well-deserved retirement. In his spare time, he loved spending time in the great outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Another one of his favorite hobbies was crafting homemade wine.

He is survived by his son, Shane Garrett (Louise) and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A funeral service celebrating his life will be conducted on Saturday, February 3, 2024 at 1 p.m. at Union Christian Church in Madison Heights. Interment will follow immediately in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, beginning at 12 p.m. at the church.
