Ray Mitchell Grishaw

Ray Mitchell Grishaw, 74, of Evington, passed away Wednesday, April 13, 2011, in Lynchburg Health & Rehab. He was the husband of Jessie Rosser Grishaw for 51 years..

Born Sept. 4, 1936, in Appomattox Co., he was a son of the late Walter Lee Grishaw and Bertha Cyrus Grishaw. He was a veteran of the National Guard and retired as a master plumber in the commercial field. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and also loved to follow sports. He considered his wife, children, grand and great-grandchildren to be his highest achievement and the greatest source of pride in his life.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Grishaw is preceded in death by a brother, Ellis Grishaw.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Michael R. Grishaw and wife, Cindy of Goode; daughters Janet H. Monroe of Rustburg, Lisa G. Thomas (Greg) of Evington, Carol G. Mercer (Vince) of Nags Head, N.C.; sisters, Lois Jackson (Bob) of Melpitas, Ca, Hazel Lee ( Ray) of Madison Heights, Faye Wood (Edward) of Rustburg, Kaye Bently of Phoenix, Va., Dorothy Overstreet ( Morris) also of Phoenix, Va. ; brothers, David Grishaw(Elaine) of Appomattox, Allen Grishaw (Betty F.) of Brookneal; eight grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m., Sunday, April 17, 2011, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel conducted by the Rev. Timothy L. Dooley with a visitation to follow.

The family will also receive friends at the residence of Mrs. Grishaw.

In lieu of flowers the family request memorial contributions be made to American Diabetes Association P.O.Box 11454 Alexandria, Va

The entire family would like to thank everyone at the Dialysis Center of Lynchburg, Medical Care Center and a special thanks to Lynchburg Health & Rehab.
