Rex Roberts

Rex Jay Roberts Rex Jay Roberts, 83, of Lynchburg, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, September 29, 2011. He was the devoted husband of Virginia "Ginger" Collins Roberts for 57 years. Born in Reidsville, NC on June 5, 1928, he was a son of the late Able Glenn Roberts and Luda Maye Comer Roberts and was also preceded in death by 4 brothers and 3 sisters.

Rex was retired from GE in 1991, attended Chestnut Hill United Methodist Church and was a member of Lynchburg Elks Lodge and was a US Army Veteran, having served in the Korean Conflict. "Papa" cherished his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was selfless in helping a friend in need. He loved working in his garden, landscaping and looked forward to his annual Brunswick stews at the pool. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, L. Jay Roberts of San Diego, CA; Tracey R. White and her husband, Glenn; Amy R. Goolsby and her husband, Clint all of Lynchburg; four grandsons, C. Collin White of Lynchburg, J. Morgan White of New York City, NY, Christopher G. White, Spencer O. Goolsby both of Lynchburg; two grand-daughters, Kaylyn E. Goolsby, Ashlyn W. Goolsby both of Lynchburg; two great-granddaughters, Gracie R. White and Addison L. White. A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Monday, October 3, 2011 in the chapel of Heritage Funeral Service by the Rev. Becky Cloud with burial to follow in Virginia Memorial Park with military honors by American Legion Post 16. The family will receive friends from 3-5:00 p.m., today Sunday, October 2, 2011 at Heritage Funeral Service and other times at the residence.
