Richard K. Hoskins

RRichard Kelly Hoskins, 93, of Lynchburg, died peacefully after a brief illness on January 28, 2022, surrounded by his family.

Richard was born on October 30, 1928, in Lynchburg, Virginia, to the late Dr. John Hundley Hoskins and Mary Emma Kelly Hoskins. He was the husband of Ann Sydnor Hoskins for 62 years, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by a brother, John Hundley Hoskins, Jr. and a sister, Emily Hume Hoskins Heald.

Richard attended Lynchburg schools and graduated from Fishburne Military School. His education at Hampden-Sydney was interrupted by the Air Force during the Korean War. On returning home, he attended Lynchburg College graduating in 1954. Richard was an avid reader, a lifelong student of economics and history, and will be remembered as a loving husband and father.

He is survived by his six children: Granville Sydnor Hoskins Taylor and husband, Charles, of Monroe; Georgie Hume Hoskins Arthur and husband, Mark, of Lynchburg; John Hundley Hoskins II and wife Kathy, of Forest; Rebecca Royster Hoskins Shelnut, of Lynchburg; Robert Byrd Hoskins and wife, Rebekah, of Coleman Falls; and Ella Garnett Hoskins, of Arizona; twelve grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a sister, Elizabeth Garnett Hoskins, of Lynchburg; a sister-in-law, Vivian Sydnor Payne and husband, Dan, of Lynchburg; and their children and grandchildren.

A private ceremony and burial was held on February 1, 2022.
