Robert Kerr Obituary

Robert "Bob"

George Kerr

Robert "Bob" George Kerr, 78, of Lynchburg, entered his eternal reward in heaven on July 16, 2009, at Lynchburg General Hospital.

He was born Sept. 28, 1930, in Commodore, Penn., to the late Austin Wallace Kerr and Alice Trease Kerr. Robert raised his family in Mentor, Ohio, working 42 years for TRW in Cleveland, Ohio. He retired to Lynchburg in 1992 with his wife, Sharlie.

He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Sharlie Hess Kerr; son, Daniel Kerr, his wife, Julie, and their children, Sarah and Ben, of Vilonia, Ark.; son, Dr. Stephen Kerr, and his wife, Martha, and their children, Michael and Stephanie, of Forest; and daughter, Sharon Kerr Clark, her husband, Kevin, and their children, Seth and Samuel, of Lynchburg. He is also survived by his sister, Ruth Lucas, and several nieces and nephews. Robert was preceded in death by his sister, Queen Kerr.

Mr. Kerr, faithful servant of the Lord, was a long-time member of Heritage Baptist Church and loved to serve there until his health made it too difficult for him to continue. He will be sorely missed by his wife, children, grandchildren, family and friends, but we know that we will see him again one day in heaven if we have trusted in Jesus as our Lord and Savior.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, July 19, 2009, at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 20, 2009, at Heritage Baptist Church with Dr. F. Gerald Kroll officiating. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.

Donations may be made in lieu of flowers to the building fund at Heritage Baptist Church, 219 Breezewood Drive, Lynchburg, VA 24502.

Tharp Funeral Home and Crematory, Lynchburg, is assisting the family, (434) 237-9424. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.tharpfuneralhome.com.

Dear Sharlie and Family,

We were grieved to hear of Bob's homegoing. You have both been such an inspiration to us as you continued day by day with the struggle. Bob was always pleasant, and you were so faithful to caring for him. I know God's richest blessing will rest upon you as live without him. We know He has promised to meet every need, ably and willingly.

Love and prayers,

Ann and Jim Wharton

Dear Sharlie!

We share in your loss of Bob, althogh we are confident in the Hope that God provided us through the death, burial, and resurrection of His Son, our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. We will see him again and what a reunion that will be! We don't remember ever hearing Bob complain, even when, because of his health, he had to make many changes in his life. Rob and I shall miss him greatly. We shall continue lifting you and your family before our Father as He leads and guides you in the remainder of your journey with Him.
