Roger Jefferson Obituary

Roger Perry Jefferson

August 29, 1948 - May 2, 2025

Gretna…Roger Perry Jefferson, age 76 of Chatham and Penhook passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on Friday, May 2, 2025.

Born August 29, 1948 in Pittsylvania County, he was the eldest son of the late James Perry Jefferson and Annie Osborne Jefferson. He attended Gretna High School where he was an active member of the Future Farmers of America and played three varsity sports, including basketball, baseball, and track and field. He subsequently enrolled in Phillips Business College where he met his wife of 33 years, Linda Raiford. They married in 1968 and had two children, Rodney Allen Jefferson and Angela Lee Jefferson. Mr. Jefferson later completed his Bachelor's degree and Master of Business Administration degree at Fort Lauderdale College of Business. He enlisted in the National Guard in the early 1970s and simultaneously launched his illustrious career in business when he took a position with Burroughs Business Forms in Richmond, Virginia. With his wife, Linda, he later founded his own company, Dominion Forms, in 1978 in Roanoke, Virginia. In addition, he was Co-Founder of T&J Properties, Co-Founder of Smith Mountain Building Supply, Founder of Mountain View Farms, President of the Document Management Industries Association, President of Cobblestone Milk Cooperative, and the Immediate Past Board Chair of Olde Dominion Agricultural Foundation. He was both a visionary and a dynamic force across multiple industries, and his passing is not only a significant loss to the business and dairy communities but also a deeply personal loss to all who knew him.

Mr. Jefferson was predeceased by his father, James Perry Jefferson, and his mother, Annie Osborne Jefferson.

Mr. Jefferson will be lovingly remembered by his children, Rodney Jefferson (Stephanie Jefferson) and Angela Jefferson; his grandchildren, Taylor Lee Jefferson, Wade Allen Jefferson, and Ann Perry Hunley Jefferson; his ex-wife Linda Jefferson; his beloved partner of 15 years, Susan Pope; his brother and best friend, Anthony Jefferson (Debra Jefferson); his niece, Leigh Ann Jefferson Heiss (Eric Heiss); his cousin who was like a brother, Dwight Jefferson (Deborah Jefferson); and many family, friends, and colleagues.

Mr. Jefferson will be put to rest in Gretna, Virginia as part of a private graveside service. A celebration of his life and legacy will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Mr. Jefferson's favorite nonprofit organization, the Olde Dominion Agricultural Foundation (19783 US Highway 29 S, Suite G, Chatham, Virginia 24531).

So sorry to hear about Roger. We rode the same school bus for years. Always nice and well mannered. I knew he would rise up and make something good of himself. Very professional even as a teenager. Praying for his family and friends. May God comfort you and help you through this grief process.

My deepest condolences to the Jefferson family. It was my pleasure to visit, and inspect Mountain View Farms for the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality for 20+ years. Interacting with Roger was always interesting and positive. He was a force of nature, and very competent. It is with great sorrow I have learned of his passing. He will be missed on many levels.

Mr. Jefferson coached me in basketball many years ago in youth league in Franklin County, when I played with his son, Rodney. I also remember him taking me to Myrtle beach on vacation with Rodney. Good coach and man. God bless and praying for the family.

I was hired by Dairymen Specialty as Roger built his new barn. I spent many an hour doing my best to remedy his break downs and prevent his next one. He was always appreciative of my efforts. I admired his business sense and tenacity. He will be missed by many. Heart felt prayers sent to the family.

Our deepest sympathy goes out to the family at this time of their great loss. We attend the same church for years until everyone grow up and went different ways. I also worked for his mother in the beauty shop for years and some after going to a different job. Our prayers will be with the family and Roger will be in a better place.
