Ryan Vassar Obituary

Ryan Haden Vassar, 34, went to be with the Lord on December 2, 2022. He passed away near his home and church in Gladys, Virginia.

Ryan was a graduate of William Campbell High School and completed a specialized program at Central Virginia Community College. Ryan was a kind and loving son, brother, uncle, and friend. Overcoming physical challenges and diminishing eyesight, Ryan was passionate about serving in his community, and was a frequent volunteer on committees at Kedron Baptist Church. Ryan enjoyed attending live sporting events, including those of some of his favorite teams, the Liberty Flames, Virginia Cavaliers, and Lynchburg Hillcats, among others. Ryan found purpose in a kitchen services position at Liberty University, where he was employed since 2014.

He treasured time with his family and friends, and looked forward to travel opportunities, seeing more than 22 Major League Baseball stadiums in his lifetime. Ryan gave the best hugs. He cared deeply for other people and he showed it through acts of service. He loved setting up and taking down tables for church events. He played on the floor with his nieces and nephews, Sarah, George, Evan, and Clara. He had a hearty belly laugh.

Ryan is survived by his parents, William Ted Vassar and Patricia Haden Vassar of Gladys, Virginia; his sister and brother-in-law, Karen Brown and Robert Brown of Henrico, Virginia; his brother and sister-in-law, Nathan Vassar and Jessica Vassar of Austin, Texas; his uncle and aunt, Steven Dunnavant and Cynthia Dunnavant of Altavista, Virginia; uncle, the Reverend Gary Vassar of Louisburg, North Carolina; aunt, Becky Chauvin of Ocala, Florida; uncle and aunt, Ronald Belcher and Karen Belcher of Summerfield, North Carolina; and uncle and aunt, Karl Haden and Jeannie Haden of Atlanta, Georgia.

A service followed by graveside interment will be held on Sunday, December 4, 2022, at 2 p.m. at Kedron Baptist Church, 7862 Brookneal Highway, Gladys, Virginia.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service and other times at the residence.

In lieu of flowers, any donations should be made to Kedron Baptist Church, P.O. Box 38, Gladys, VA 24554.

Dearest Aunt Trisha, Uncle Ted, Nathan and Karen, Gabriel and I send you all of our love, prayers and deepest sympathy.
Beloved Cousin Ryan is ever a shining light for the Lord. His pure heart and goodness are a gift to our family. We are profoundly saddened that he has left this world so soon, but thankful that dear Ryan has just begun to live in his Heavenly Home. When my mama passed away, one of the beautiful & healing things I recall from the day we had her funeral was Ryan's warm hug and his gentle and kind words. He truly brought us the comfort of Jesus.
Thank you, Father, for sharing Ryan with us. Until we meet again, may we live with one pursuit--to seek Precious Jesus and have our souls set on the path to Home where we will have a joyful reunion with all of these dear ones we miss.
