William Allen Obituary

William "Bill" Hunter Allen Jr.

William "Bill" Hunter Allen, Jr., surrounded by his loving family, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 10, 2021.

Bill was born on February 1, 1952, in Amherst County to the late Hunter and Evelyn Allen. He was a radiologic technologist at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital and went on to found Allen Imaging, Inc. which served central and southwest Virginia for many years up until his retirement.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Lois Allen Cash; and his brothers-in-law, Lee Roy Campbell and Elwood Mays.

Bill is survived by his wife of 45 years, Cindy Allen; son, Hunter Allen and wife, Jamie; daughter, Emily Hilbert and husband, Danny; granddaughter, Madilyn Allen; sisters, Shelby Jean Campbell, Barbara Layne and husband, Johnny, Gay Stinnett and husband, Butch, and Fay Mays; brother-in-law, Roy Cash; along with many special cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Bill was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He took great pride in taking care of those he loved most in this world, his family. They will truly miss him.

Outside of spending quality time with his immediate family, Bill's favorite hobbies and most memorable moments would include deer hunting at his homeplace in Amherst County with his father and dear friend, Talmidge "Tammy" Fain, as well as being on the golf course with his son and other close family and friends. When not hunting or golfing, he enjoyed watching the VT Hokies play football.

Bill was a well known, respected football coach in the Glenvar area for nearly 20 years. With a love for coaching, emphasis on good sportsmanship, and best effort, he made a tremendous and lasting impact on many young men in the Glenvar community.

Bill, along with his wife, Cindy, enjoyed being a part of a weekly Bible study group at the home of his good friend, Sheldon Henderson, lead by Ms. Shirley Martin. Although he wasn't one to talk or pray aloud during these sessions, he loved the Lord and Ms. Shirley could always count on him to chime in with the shouts of "Amen".

Services to celebrate Bill's life will be held in the Spring. Family members and friends will be notified. For now, online condolences may be expressed at www.johnmoakey.com.

What a legacy, what a life. You will forever be alive in our hearts. Until we meet again, we'll be loving you.

Billy was a true friend. Even though we were cousins, he made me feel like a brother. I loved Billy. Praise God, I look forward to meeting him in heaven. God bless his family. Love, Joe

Cindy, deepest sympathy and prayers for you and your family. I always enjoyed working with Bill when he came to Bedford Memorial to check on us or work on our equipment. Those were the good days when we felt like we were dealing with friends not just a company. Know he will be remembered warmly by the people he dealt with over the years.
