William B. Hoffman

William B. Hoffman, 89, of Lynchburg, died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2009. He was the husband of Anne Marie Hoffman for 68 years.

William was born in Queens, N.Y., on Dec. 29, 1919, a son of the late William Albert Hoffman and Hermine Kempski Hoffman.

Mr. Hoffman graduated from Port Jefferson High School in Long Island, N.Y., and Rutgers University. He had a long career with National Gypsum, holding the position of president of Huron Cement Division and president and chief executive officer of Binswanger Glass Division.

Mr. Hoffman served his country in the U.S. Army during World World II, was a member of KAZIM SHRINERS, Roanoke 13180, Royal Order of Jesters Court 059, Scottish Rite of Freemasonary 09575234, Supreme Council 33 Degree SJ USA and was a member of Forest Presbyterian Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Linda Janiak and husband, Dennis, of Altavista, and Craig Hoffman and wife, Sook, of Fairport, N.Y.; grandchildren, Michelle Martin, Kelly deBarnard, Jeffery Janiak, Jeremy Hoffman, Craig Hoffman, Garrett Hoffman, Corey Hoffman, Daniel Hoffman, Cameron Hoffman, Connor Hoffman, Susan Sayles, Lisa Walsh and David Goltz; and 14 great-grandchildren.

A daughter, Susan Goltz, preceded him in death.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, 2009, at Forest Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Roger Uittenbogaard officiating.
