I would like to send my condolences to the Roncallo family. Mr. Roncallo was a great man and leader in our community. From a young boy I remember visiting Mr. Roncallo with my father Ralph Curatola of Curatola Bros. Trucking & Warehousing. Their was always a lot of laughing when they were together. Then their were the gathering in my grand mother's basement in Massapequa, Rose Saladino. Everyone would eat and laugh to celebrate a holiday or birthday. In later years I was glad that my wife was able to meet and on occasion visit with Mr. Roncallo at his home. It was great to hear the old stories. He was a wealth of knowledge. He will be missed. That was truly the greatest generation.

September 13, 2013. Angelo often spoke of a young boy, Miguel, from Guatemala, of whom Angelo was so proud. Young Miguel is a boy who Angelo sponsored, through a private foundation, so that Miguel could finish his education and learn a trade to support himself and his family. Angelo beamed with joy when he received photographs and letters from Miguel, and drawings by him. The correspondence over the years was a source of great happiness for Angelo. After Angelo passed, Miguel, his mother and his aunt sent heart warming letters to Priscille, in which they expressed their deep sympathy, condolences and gifts of prayers for Angelo and Priscille.

May 4th, 2013 will be the third anniversary of my brother, Ange's death. The beautiful sentiments expressed here and the photo gallery help to ease the pain of loss.
Thanks to all who have been such a support over these past three years to our family. Knowing that death is the doorway to a new life, one where there will be " no more pain, no more sorrow" gives us hope. Looking forward to the day when we will all be reunited once more.

Dad,
Compiling this book in your memory has been a great source of consolation for me. I do miss you terribly. Thank you again and again for so many things. I have to move on now...I know that's the way you would have it. I will see you on the other side...but not too soon, I hope!

I remember the time that I was about 9 years old. Grandpa and my Dad were sitting on Grandpa's porch watching me play on the tailgate of my Dad's truck. The tailgate was up. I was sitting on top of it and playing with the latch. Grandpa yelled out "Don't touch that!" I touched it, not realizing that it would open the tailgate. I went falling off the truck onto the street pavement, hitting my head. After Grandpa realized I was okay, he yelled out "Took alot of brains to do that, John!." It was pretty funny and everyone had a good laugh, except for me. Grandpa.....thanks for being such a funny guy. Love, John Angelo

Your smile was full of energy, unconditional love, friendship, warmth, generosity and humor. I will always treasure the moments that I spent in your presence. Each one of them a treasured gift because you valued life and with every breath that you took I could see the truth, wisdom and honesty that placed you in such an esteemed position within your family, career and friendships. It's no surprise to me that Danny is walking, I knew that your passing on would include many miracles. And one last thing, you also have given me the most treasured of all gifts because your beautiful daughter is my best friend forever. I miss you and every now and then I catch a glimpse of your magical smile in Jeans' expression
of love.

May-June 2010 Navigator (Columbus Lodge #2143 - S. Farmingdale, NY) Vol.47 No.3: 'Lodge Co-Founder Hon. Angelo Roncallo Gone at 83
On May 4th [sic], 2010, a most devoted member of the Order Sons of Italy in America and a co-founder of Columbus Lodge #2143 in 1964, departed this life leaving behind him a legacy of achievements in his professional, and civic life, and most of all, his beloved Order.
Angelo D. Roncallo, son of immigrant parents, Anthony, from Lerici and Concetta, from Calabria, was born in Port Chester, NY in May, 1927. He attended grade schools in Port Chester, Elmira...and Queens...He graduated from Peekskill Military Academy, and received a Bachelor fo Arts degree from Manhattan College and earned a Doctor of Juris Prudence Degree from Georgetown University Law School. He was married to the former Priscille Pouliot and together they had five children: Marc, Paul, John, Jean, and James. Angelo's military service was with the United States Army, from which he was honorably discharged after serving from 1944 to 1946.
Angelo was one of the three Founders of the Columbus Lodge No. 2143, and the catalyst around which the rebirth of the OSIA in the State of NY occurred. In 1963 he saw the need for an organization of Italian Americans in the area of Nassau County......and because of his personal charisma and his leadership ability, Americans of Italian heritage flocked to him and to the Columbus Lodge #2143, which , in its first year of existence (1964), became the largest local lodge in the United States and remained so for more than 15 years. Angelo served as Venerable of the lodge from1966 - 1967; he was appointed Grand Deputy to Galileo Galilei Lodge #2253; he was Chairman of what we now know as the Commission for Social Justice, ... he was elected Grand Trustee of the Grand Lodge of NY, and he was appointed National Deputy to the State of Connecticut. For his contributions to the Order and the community, Angelo was awarded, by the New York Grand Lodge with its highest recognition - the prestigious Bene Emeritus Award in 1988.
Angelo was active in many local and national Italian American activities. He served for many years as a Director on the National Board of ACIM (American Committee on Italian Migration); he was co-founder of the Nassau County Italian American Businessmen's Association, and he was also one of the founders of the Dante Foundation.
Angelo was elected to serve as Councilman of the Town of Oyster Bay in 1965; he was elected Nassau County Comptroller in 1967; in 1972 he was elected to the 93rd United States Congress, and he was elected to the New York State Supreme Court in 1977, where he sat as a Justice of the Supreme Court in Nassau County. We praise our brother Angelo D. Roncallo for the many many years of devotion, leadership and counseling he provided, and the many people he has helped. His Brothers at Columbus Lodge will always remember him for many humanitarian contributions.'

Article published in the Massapequan Observer - May 14, 2010, page 3, "Sons of Italy - Columbus Lodge Founder Dies, Was NYS Supreme Court Justice, US Congressman
The Sons of Italy-Columbus Lodge of Farmingdale/Massapequa area received sad news on Tuesday, May 4 when it was reported that Judge Angelo Roncallo, a founding member of the lodge, died. It was Judge Roncallo, P. Vincent Landi and Dominick Baranello's inspiration and fortitude that created and institututed the Columbus Lodge #2143 as part of the Order Sons of Italy in America in 1964.
The 83-year-old Massapequa resident served as the lodge's second president (1966-67) and was one of five members to receive the prestigious Bene Emeritus Award, NYS Sons of Italy's top honor. Roncallo was a Manhattan College graduate and received his law degree from Georgetown University in 1953. Professionally, he served in the U.S. House of Representatives (1973-1975) and later a NY Supreme Court Justice (1977-95).
The Columbus Lodge is a not-for-profit fraternal organization. The lodge offers its members various social and recreational activities and its charitable donations to local charities and scholarship program have made it a fabric on the community....."

A Mass card: "Please accept heartfelt sympathy in your bereavement. Missionaries of the Sacred Heart will remember Angelo Roncallo in their Masses and Prayers May the Sacred Heart of Jesus comfort you on the death of your loved one from Ann (McEntee) & Family" accompanied by card and a letter, the card read: "Thoughts from Cardinal Hume - GRIEF
Grief cannot be shared,
for it is mine alone.
Grief is a dying within me,
a great emptiness, a frightening void.
It is loneliness,
a sickening sorrow at night,
on awakening a terrible dread.
Another's words do not help.
A reasoned argument explains little
for having tried too much.
Silence is the best response to another's grief.
Not the silence that is a pause in speech,
awkward and unwanted,
but one that unites heart to heart.
Love, speaking in silence, is the way into the
void of another's grief.
The best of all loves comes silently,
and slowly too, to soften the pain of grief,
and begin to dispel the sadness.
It is the love of God, warm and true,
which will touch the grieving heart and heal it.
He looks at the grieving person and has pity,
for grief is a great pain.
He came among us to learn about grief and much else too, this Man of Sorrows.
He knows. He understands.
Grief will yield to peace - in time."
Cardinal Basil Hume, OSB

A Mass card: "The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass will be offered for the happy repose of the soul of Angelo from Trish, with love, Rev...............Westminster Cathedral, With Deepest Sympathy, accompanied by a May 9, 2010 letter from Trish McEntee to Priscille Roncallo: "Dearest Priscille You and your family have been in our thoughts and prayers these past days as we, your Irish family, mourn the loss of Angelo but also remember and celebrate the time we have shared since we first met.
We have all lost our American father and will miss him so much. You and Angelo have always offered us your open hospitality, love, friendship and great fun. I remember the warmth of my very first visit to your home when Benny and Hannah moved to Long Island and always being welcomed ever since as part of your family. It was a wonderful day in Summerhill when both families were united forever and we have all had so much fun together ever since.
I will always remember Angelo's great sense of humour, his genuine interest in all the family, his support and reassurance in difficult times .... and that twinkle in his eye, especially when grandchildren were in sight.
Benny and John have told me about the magnificent funeral and all the tributes and acknowledgements of Angelo's significant career and rich life, and all the people he touched, influenced and loved. What a wonderful legacy to all who are left behind - so many memories to draw on. I hope they will bring you comfort in addition to the love of all who mourn with you now.
I know Mum is hoping to visit next month and she will be glad to see you and share her many memories including her amazing welcome to Long Island - only Angelo would attempt to upstage the Irish welcome, and do it successfully!
Thank you Priscille for always making us so welcome and for the wonderful care you have shown to Benny and Hannah from the day they arrived in your home. We owe you a great debt of love and we join you and all the Roncallos in missing Angelo's special presence in our lives, but also knowing he is already looking over us.
With my fondest love, and deepest sympathy, always, Trish x

The following letter was sent from Charles Fritts, dated May 8, 2010 to the Roncallo Family: " On behalf of the Fritts family, I would like to express our sadness at the passing of Angelo. He was a great friend and neighbor.
He was so helpful to many teenagers in the neighborhood. I can think of several who he helped find summer jobs. Regarding that matter, he was ahead of his time. Now, every county and city has a summer youth jobs program. In the 1960's, he was the summer youth jobs program! The point is that he cared and he made things happen.
For myself, he gave me my first job after graduating from college in his Congressional office in Washington, D. C. It was the start of my career.
I am sure that I am only one of many for whom he served as a role model and advisor.
His career in public service demonstrated a great commitment to making things better for everyone. From his positions in local government to Congress to the Judiciary, it was always to serve the public. That takes a special kind of person.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
Sincerely, (signed Charlie Fritts)

May 7, 2010, Letter from the Hon. Arthur D. Spatt, Senior United States District Judge, United States District Court, Eastern District of New York, P. O. Box 9014, Central Islip, NY, to Mrs. Priscille Roncallo: "May I offer my heartfelt condolences to you on your great loss. In my view Angelo Roncallo was one of our finest trial judges who combined outstanding ability with legal scholarship and exemplary judicial temperament.
I recall with nostalgia my many discussions with Angelo both in the legal field and on life in general. He was a wonderful friend.
On a personal level, he was a decent, honorable and fine human being. We in the court system will miss him very much.
Even though well meant, words have little meaning at a time like this. However, Dee and I would like you to know that you are in our thoughts, and that you have our wishes for solace for you and your family at this trying time. Sincerely yours, Arthur

May 6, 2012, Letter from the Hon. Norman F. Lent, Member of Congress 1971-1993, to the Roncallo Family: "Barbara and I were most saddened to learn of Angelo's passing. We want you to know that our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.
Angelo's loss is a personal one as he was a true and good friend. Angelo often helped me with advice and counsel during the many years of our friendship. We served together as members of the Nassau County Congressional Delegation to the U. S. House of Representatives. Angelo was always generous in his time and counsel with me. He and I often 'brainstormed' and developed legislative strategy together.
Aside from our legislative duties, we shared many quiet times together sitting in the House Chamber, conversing. Angelo could discuss not only Nassau County and New York State politics and issues of his day, but easily switch over to national concerns or small talk. He was always an easy fellow to approach and talk to. It was a pleasure to be with Angelo because of his genuine warmth and ease with others. Angelo truly loved and enjoyed his family and home. He was an outstanding individual as well as a legislator.
Angelo was always considerate of others. Everyone on Capitol Hill who daily worked with him during his years in the House came to respect and admire him. After his retirement from Congress, he quickly established a fine reputation as a thoughtful, focused and highly principled Judge of the New York Supreme Court. Angelo will be greatly missed.
I sincerely hope that the Roncallo Family will take heart and courage from your friends and family whose sympathies are with you. Sincerely, Norman

May 6, 2010, Letter from the Knights of Columbus, New Haven, CT, to Jeannie Roncallo: "I was greatly saddened to learn of the death of our brother, Angelo, and hasten to offer you deepest sympathy in my own name and on behalf of his fellow Knights.
Through special arrangements made with the Dominican Fathers in charge of St. Mary's Church in New Haven, where the Order was founded in 1882, he will be remembered every day in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass being offered at the Knights of Columbus altar there. On March 29, 1982, the 100th anniversary of the Order, the mortal remains of our Founder, Father Michael J. McGivney, were entombed in this church, adding significantly to the meaning it always has had for every Knight.
.....In times of great personal grief I find comfort in this thought contained in the Liturgy of the Mass: 'Life is changed, not taken away.' May our common belief that his new life is one of joy and peace in the risen Lord comfort you and your loved ones. Sincerely, Carl A. Anderson, Supreme Knight.

Vol. 156 Washington, Tuesday, May 4, 2010, No. 65, Congressional Record - United States of America - Proceedings and Debates for the 111th Congress, Second Session, Page H3098: "ANNOUNCING THE PASSING OF FORMER REPRESENTATIVE ANGELO RONCALLO OF NEW YORK
(Mr. King of New York asked and was given permission to address the House for 1 minute.)
Mr. KING of New York. Madam Speaker, it is my sad duty to inform the Congress that former Congressman Angelo Roncallo of New York passed away this week.
Angelo Roncallo was a predecessor of mine in the Third Congressional District. He served from 1973 to 1975. He was Nassau County Comptroller from 1967 to 1972 and a member of the Oyster Bay Town Board from 1965 to 1967.
Madam Speaker, Angelo Roncallo was an outstanding New Yorker. Angelo Roncallo went through some very difficult times. He was a victim of a terrible miscarriage of justice, having been indicted and then acquitted - the jury was out for only a matter of minutes, but by then his political career as a Congressman was ruined. However he made a strong comeback, being elected a Justice of New York State Supreme Court, where he served for many years with great distinction.
Angelo Roncallo was very active in the Italian-American community, very active in the neighborhoods in the communities, and certainly is a legend in New York State politics and government. Angelo Roncallo, again, was a true friend, a mentor of mine, a person for whom I have the greatest regard and affection.
I yield to the gentleman from New York.
MR. RANGEL. Thank you so much for yielding.
The entire delegation of New York would ask this body to join with us to pray for the family in hoping that his loss would be made up by the generosity of God in blessing his family for the good work done by the Congressman over the years.
THE SPEAKER pro tempore (Mrs. DAHLKEMPER). All Members will rise and observe a moment of silence.......

Brother Roncallo's name would be added to our listing with prestigious names such as: Giacamo Puccini, Henry Mancini, Rudolph Valentino and Niccolo Macchiavelli. The Columbus Lodge #2143 has requested this additon and with your permission we will be honored to give new lodges in the Nassau and Suffolk area an opportunity to use the name - Justice Angelo D. Roncallo Lodge."
