MAYER - Anne Claire. Mrs. Matthew L. Mayer, 84 years young, of Longboat Key, FL (formerly of Langhorne, PA & Locust Valley, NY) died unexpectedly on Sunday, May 15th, 2016 at 11:52 pm. She passed away quietly in her sleep with family members present. Anne was born in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, NY in the depression era of 1932. She was one of six children of John and Mary Rutledge Reardon. "Ayne" (the pet name Matthew used for his wife) grew up with grit, honesty and integrity. Her husband of 63 years, could not help himself from falling in love with her flaming red hair, fiery temperament and extensive family devotion. Anne is survived by her dedicated, beloved husband, Matthew L. Mayer; her lifelong best friend and sister Marie Prusak with her husband Robert Prusak; her brother Jack Reardon and his wife, Betty Reardon; and sister-in-law Lorraine Reardon. She leaves behind her grieving children; son Douglas Matthew Mayer, daughter-in-law June Thompson Mayer; son-in-law Michael Patrick Carr; daughter Mary Jane Berkowitz; daughter Jacqueline Marie Mayer; daughter Dr. Virginia Anne Low and son-in-law Dr. Alexander Hugh Low. Anne was blessed with ten grandchildren; Jessica Marie Mayer, Jennifer Anne Carr-Chimera, Kathleen Marie Carr-Cassidy, Christopher Matthew Mayer, Marc Matthew Berkowitz, Sara Anne Berkowitz, Michael Patrick Carr, Amanda Marie Low, Matthew Richard Low, and Rachel Christine Low. She leaves behind three great-grandchildren; Kelly Jean Cassidy, Michael James Cassidy and Declan Charles Chimera. Anne joins her beloved daughter, Jean Anne Carr in heaven, along with her parents, brothers, Charles and Robert Reardon and the rest of her Irish clan. Family and friends are welcome to celebrate Anne's life on Saturday, May 28th at National Cremation & Burial Society at 2990 Bee Ridge Road Sarasota, FL 34239 Tel: (941) 923-9535.
