Carol and I became friends in 1960. We were attending 4th grade at Burns Avenue Elementary School in Hicksville, Long Island, New York. We were both 9 years old.
Carol played the saxophone and I played the trumpet in the band. In addition, Carol lived a few blocks away from me, so we traveled on the same school bus each school day.
Our friendship continued over the years, as we played in the Senior Band at Hicksville Junior High School, and then in the Symphonic Wind Ensemble at Hicksville Senior High School. In addition, we were in quite a few classes together.
Carol was a beautiful, gentle soul. She was kind, friendly, always upbeat, intelligent, a terrific student, and a great musician. She had an infectious laugh that made you laugh, too. I so enjoyed her company. Carol was the kind of person that you wanted as your friend. I feel very fortunate that Carol was a good friend of mine.
We graduated high school in 1969. As many of us do after graduation, we went our separate ways. I truly regret not keeping in touch with Carol.
I recently stumbled across the fact that Carol had passed in 2016. Obviously, I was stunned and very sad.
I will always fondly remember and be grateful for my friendship with Carol. To her entire family, I want to offer my deepest, belated condolences.
Respectfully,
Jim Peluso
