SCANLON - Daniel James of Mount Sinai, died February 21, 2021, in Port Jefferson, NY. He was 61. Mr. Scanlon was born November 3, 1959 in Oceanside, NY, and grew up in Massapequa, NY, where he graduated from Massapequa High School. He received his bachelor's degree from Fordham University and his Juris Doctorate from Brooklyn Law School. He went on to start a career in education, where he began teaching Social Studies at Christopher Columbus High School in the Bronx. After, he became the Assistant Principal of Social Studies at Hillcrest High School in Jamaica, Queens. He then went on to become the Principal of John Adams High School in Ozone Park, NY. He recently retired from the New York City Department of Education after over 30 years of service. Mr. Scanlon (a.k.a. Dan), a beloved husband and father, was the son of Joan Hirx Scanlon and William Patrick Scanlon of Massapequa, NY. He is survived by his wife of over 30 years, Laura Joseffer Scanlon, who he married on July 28, 1990, in Hartsdale, NY. Mr. Scanlon is also survived by his three daughters, Lauren Jessica Scanlon, Michelle Gloria Scanlon, and Olivia Jeanette Scanlon, all of Mount Sinai. He is also survived by his mother Joan, and sisters Jean Folchetti of Massapequa, NY, and Marybeth Joyce of Averill Park, NY, and many nieces and nephews. He will always be loved and greatly missed, and never, ever forgotten. Reposing Thursday 5-8pm at Massapequa Funeral Home, Inc., 4980 Merrick Rd, Massapequa Park, NY.
