I met Dr. Bottone because he spoke to Irvington High School students each year about microbiology. His love of science was infectious (pun intentional) and influenced my career. We lost a great and generous man. My deepest condolences to the Bottone family.

In 1974 I met Ed for the first time, and along with the direction of Marcel Sierra determined my life´s pursuit. Thanks Ed for caring enough to smack me in the back of the head, while drawing me into the wonderful world of microbiology.

It was a real pleasure to have known Eddie. He had an amazing (and inspiring) career as a microbiologist and was a highly valued mentor to me during my college years. I am very sorry to learn of his passing.
