Elizabeth Allen Obituary

ALLEN - Elizabeth (nee O'Connor), of Bay Shore, NY, died peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on August 15, 2022. She is survived and loved by her husband of 59 years, Ronnie; and their six children, Maire (Paul), Dermot (Karen), Kenneth (Ayako), Brian (Joël), Patricia (Caleb), and Rory (Tara). Elizabeth loved to laugh with her 13 grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Theresa of Bay Shore, Mary (Ireland), and Josephine; and her brother, Fr. Oliver (England). Born in Tralee, County Kerry, Ireland, and brought up in Dublin, Elizabeth came to this country after marrying Ronnie in 1963. She was devoted to the parish of St Patrick in Bay Shore where she volunteered for decades in their Soup Kitchen and Outreach Center, was a school parent, a member of the RCIA team, and a lector at Mass. She worked for the Montfort Missionaries for many years. Elizabeth was also a dedicated member and past president of the Ancient Order of Hibernians Ladies Auxiliary, part of the Degree Team, and Catholic Daughters of America. Honored once as Suffolk County Hibernian of the Year, Elizabeth was also once chosen as Aide to the Grand Marshal of the St Patrick's Day Parade in NYC. For 42 years she worked tirelessly behind the scenes for the Hibernian Festival Singers. Elizabeth was also known far and wide for her world class Irish Soda Bread. Visiting will be Thursday from 2-4:30 and 7-9pm at the Overton Funeral Home Inc, 172 Main Street, Islip. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, 11:15am at St. Patrick's R.C. Church in Bay Shore. Interment to follow at St. Patrick's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in the name of Elizabeth to the Saint Patrick's Soup Kitchen would be appreciated.

We're very sorry to hear of the passing of Elizabeth, a proud Irishwoman, beautiful singer, loving mother to all in St. Pat's School, fellow Hibernian, multi-tasking, soda-bread baking powerhouse. Her energy and compassion were limitless. We remember so many ways she helped everyone. Deepest sympathies to Ronnie, her sisters and brother, her children and grandchildren. Dear Ronnie & family,
I am so sorry to hear of Elizabeth´s passing. Myself & Chris were so happy to call her our friend for over 50 years. She welcomed us to Bay Shore when we arrived from Ireland many years ago. When we visited her home, before you knew it there was a cup of tea in front of you along with her renowned soda bread.
She was a beautiful person r.i.p.
We will miss her.
Praying that you find comfort in your wonderful memories of her.

Sincerely,

Donal Kelly & family

We were so sorry to hear that Elizabeth passed away r.i.p.
We remember her as the wonderful, kind, and generous lady that always had the time to share her many talents with the Bay Shore community. She was busy raising her own loving family yet cared for so many of us in addition. What a fantastic role model for everyone! She was a joy to all she met with her beautiful smile and good humored laughter. We will miss her warm presence.

Ronnie & family, you are in our prayers. Your memories of Elizabeth will be treasured.
God bless you all.
Sincerely,
Maria, Larry & Sarah Salob
