Elsie Swift Obituary

SWIFT - Elsie Anne (Stober), 85, of Hedgesville, WV, formerly of East Northport, NY, died Monday, March 21, 2011, at the Winchester Medical Center in Winchester, VA. Born June 29, 1925 in Bayonne, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Edward Stober and Anna Borcherding Stober. The family later moved to Brooklyn, NY, and then to Long Island, NY. Mrs. Swift formerly worked as a clerk typist during World War II at the Brooklyn Navy Yard, NY, where met her husband. Later she worked quite a few years in the library at the United Nations. She was member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Martinsburg. She is survived by one son, Randolph Jeffrey Swift and wife, Tonya, of Cobleskill, NY; one daughter, Nancy Swift Dowdy and husband, Naumann S. III of Berryville, VA; one grandson, Patrick Swift; one sister, Adelaide Scholl, of Stony Brook, NY; and a sister-in-law, Mabel Calendrillo. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Heny Swift, in 2004. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 26, 2011 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1643 Pitzer's Chapel Road, Martinsburg, WV 25403, with the Rev. Christine Olson officiating. Interment will be held at Gerrardstown Presbyterian Cemetery, Gerrardstown, WV. The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Friday, March 25th at Brown Funeral Home's South Berkeley Chapel, 287 Arden Nollville Road, Inwood, WV 25428, and at 10:00 a.m., prior to the service at the church on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, Hospice or a local church. Online condolences may be offered at www.BrownFuneralHomesWV.com
