Emil V. Cianciulli

EMIL V. CIANCIULLI The Hofstra Community is deeply saddened by the passing of Emil V. Cianciulli, Class of 1952 and Chair Emeritus of the Hofstra University Board of Trustees. Mr. Cianciulli, who served in several leadership roles with the Board of Trustees, as well as the University's legal counsel, helped build Hofstra from a regional university into an internationally recognized institution. A U.S. Army veteran who served in Korea, Mr. Cianciulli was a prominent Long Island business leader and a founding member of the law firm of Suozzi, English & Cianciulli (now Meyer, Suozzi, English & Klein) and later of Cianciulli & Meng. Mr. Cianciulli served on Hofstra's Board of Trustees from 1972-1986, serving as Secretary, Vice Chair and Chair. He was awarded the Prestigious Hofstra University Presidential Medal and established the Emil V. Cianciulli Endowed Scholarship at Hofstra. He was a staunch civil rights and social justice advocate who was honored by the Long Island Chapter of the National Conference of Christians and Jews with the Brotherhood Award for his tireless work promoting higher education and removing obstacles so minority and disadvantaged students could pursue their academic goals. He also received the Long Island Distinguished Leadership Award and the Hall of Fame Award from the Long Island Business Development Council. He is survived by his wife, Clare, his daughter, Valery Cianciulli Smith and grandchildren Tara (William), Jay and Stephen, and a great grandchild, Emily. His son Christopher predeceased him.In tribute to the memory of Mr. Cianciulli, all Hofstra University Flags are being flown at half staff. Donald M.
