Herbert SCHMITZ

SCHMITZ - Herbert of Port Washington, NY died peacefully at his home on Jan. 24, 2013 at the age of 96. Eileen, his wife of 56 years, was by his side. Mr. Schmitz was the art photographer for Steuben Glass for 30 years. His numerous accounts included Jensen, Cartier, Evian and Pepsi Cola. Born in the US in 1916, he moved to Germany with his German parents, Anna Schmitz and Fritz Rosenberg in 1923. He completed his photography apprenticeship in Berlin before returning to the US in 1937 where he developed a successful photography career. His lifelong love of sailing and skiing continued into his 80's. He is survived by his wife, Eileen Schmitz, and his children Peter Schmitz, Christopher Schmitz, Meaghan Schmitz and Anna Schmitz. His son, David Schmitz, died in 2009. He was the proud grandfather of nine grandchildren. A service will be held on Monday, Jan. 28 at St. Peter of Alcantara in Port Washington, NY at 10:30 am.
