Mrs. Carroll
I know it is late for me to send my deep condolences, but my mom just told me about the passing of Mr. Caroll.
You might know my name from my mother and father, McDonnell. They were your like you-trying to get their kids into the best school around. I was there first; we had four more. I graduated in '72.
I was a skinny kid who love'd being an alterboy.
One day, by the rectory, a man sat at a table and asked me if I wanted to play football. I said yes. When I went home, my mom went crazy, but I didn't care. Father Bradley was into it and Cassidy said OK.
Really, what I loved was Mr.Caroll. I know I was not the best and if you look at the photo of us I think I'm the smallest guy on the team. But that year made me better and your husbnd made me better.
I remember he always said that winning isn't evertything, but losing is nothing.
I wish I could have gotten to the wake. I'm sure there were many pepole there that felt the same way.
I live in Manhattn, so I don't hear everthing right away.
When my uncle, Tom O'Brien died, I thought I saw Mr. C and then I thought I saw Mr, Caroll on a cane but then he was gone. I wish I ran out to Jerusalem Rd to make sure.
Well, now I am sure.
I always knew he was instrumental in gettting a man on the moon, but he never talked about it like he should have. He always liked to get someone to someplace. And isn't that what we all should do?
My best to you and your family,
Michael McDonnell

Dear Elaine, Terry, Maura, Kevin, Shaun, and Colin and families, we send our heartfelt sympathy to all of you. By your love, strength, humor, and caring ways, you not only made Jack proud, you helped this gentle man cope with his long illness. I hope you even got to sing a few irish tunes together.
All of us at Beachwalk, in Florida, have missed seeing you. We have missed Jack and Elaine singing their irish song of friendship at our St Patricks day Party. We miss you Elaine. Please come and see us when you can. We send you our love and prayers.

Mrs. Carroll - I owe my career at Northrop Grumman to your husband. Back in 1975 I helped him coach the Maria Regina eighth grade football team along with Mr. Jim Witkowski. Years later, in 1983, I sent him a resume not sure if he would remember me and certainly not knowing at all that he was a Corp VP at Grumman, but only that he worked there. He saw to it that I was given an interview and I started in November, 1983.
I will always remember him as a kind, smiling and upbeat individual, and especially will remember him fondly for extending me that opportunity. God helped me by having your husband give me a chance, and for that I will be forever grateful.
May God now help you through your loss and strengthen you in the days and months ahead.
Sincerely, Derek Descovich
