Bro. John Lawrence Dawson OSF

Dawson, OSF - Bro. John Lawrence, a Franciscan Brother of Brooklyn for 60 years, entered Eternal Life peacefully on November 18, 2025. In 1947, Brother was born to Joseph Dawson and Irene E. Currie in New York, NY. He received the Franciscan Habit in 1966 along with the religious name John Lawrence. Brother John Lawrence earned his B.A. cum laude at St. Francis College in 1971, followed by an M.A. at Adelphi University in 1976. Brother taught at St. Joseph's in Babylon (1969-70), for almost a decade at St. Anthony's (1970-79), Chaminade High School (1979-80), St. Francis Prep (1980-81), and then returned to St. Anthony's for another three decades (1981-2011). After a stroke in 2011, Brother John Lawrence moved to the Maria Regina Long Term Residence in Brentwood where he died peacefully. Brother John Lawrence is survived by his niece Kathleen, his extended family and his Franciscan Brothers. Viewing will take place on Monday, November 24 from 9-11 am in Saint Anthony's High School Chapel, 275 Wolf Hill Road, South Huntington, NY. The Mass of Christian burial will be Monday, November 24 at 11 am in St. Anthony's High School Chapel. Interment is at Holy Rood Cemetery, 111 Old Country Road, Westbury, NY.
