Norvin H. RIESER

RIESER - Norvin H. of Sea Cliff, husband of the late Martha S. Rieser, passed away on Friday, May 4, 2012 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born in NYC on June 20, 1922 and lived in Sea Cliff and ShelterIsland. Norvin served in the USCG in Greenport, NY during WWII as a member of "Hooligans Navy" and in the Pacific as a tugboat Captain. After the war, he worked for and later became president of the family business, Venida Company. An avid sailor, well known on Long Island Sound, served as Commodore of the Sea Cliff Yacht Club from 1969 to 1971. He was a key organizer of the Around Long Island Race, and very active in the Storm Trysail Club, sailing many Bermuda, Block Island, Annapolis- Newport and other offshore races. He is survived by his sister, Eileen of Colorado, and his four children, Susan Masse, Sally Smith, Richard Smith andStephen Smith and five grand children, Linda, Richard,Owen, Jesse and Ama.
