As a child my family would often visit the Hogden family for a Norwegian- themed Christmas dinner and enjoy the holiday treats that always came afterwards. So many years later I can still recall the night Peter decided to take me on a toboggan run. As a child it seemed like we walked for miles through the deep snow to the hill behind his house. The land was just being developed and cleared of trees. The hill appeared to be more of a steep ravine with no bottom in sight. Sitting in front and Peter in the back we pushed off from the top of the hill to what end I did not know. It seemed odd to me that a flat piece of wood could travel over snow so quickly. I only thought sleds could be used for such a purpose but I was wrong. In the dark of night we rode the toboggan over the snow. I felt the cold air, the snow and wind as we sped down the hill never knowing when we would stop. It was a memory brought back to life when I think of Peter. Years later, with my four sons, I bought a toboggan that seats six so they too could have the thrill of a toboggan run. Thanks Peter for the wonderful memory and family traditions.

My sincerest condolences go out to Peter's family. My name is Steve Golightly. I served with Pete on the USS Josephus Daniels back in the 80s. I was shocked and saddened to see his obituary in the Times. Pete and I shared many adventures in the Navy. He was always quick with a joke, bursting with energy, and ready for just about anything. Though I haven't seen Pete since 1986, I have thought of him often. He will be sorely missed. Fair winds and following seas, brother.
