Peter K. Inglima

1924 - 2022

Inglima - Peter K., of Melville, NY, passed very peacefully on Thursday, June 16. He was 98. He is survived by his wife, Mary and son, Kenneth. He was a loving and dedicated son, brother, father, and husband, who was also passionate about his nieces and nephews and extended family. He was not only a hero to me, as my Dad, but a true hero of WWII, navigating many missions on B17s, including the daring 'Operation Aphrodite' which claimed the life of Joseph P. Kennedy Jr. Peter survived bailing out of two B17s and a crash landing of a third. He flew 35 combat missions, and received the following decorations: Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal with four Oak Leaf Clusters, Distinguished Unit Citation and European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon. He worked as an Electrical Engineer at Sperry Gyroscope for 35 years, designing Ring Laser Gyro guidance systems for NASA, the US Air Force and the US Navy. He was an avid golfer, with two holes in one to his credit. He was beloved and will be missed by his family and friends. His calm demeanor was balanced by his wonderful sense of humor, and he was always ready to put his many skills to work for anyone who asked. He will be honored with a mass at St. Charles Cemetery Chapel, Wellwood Avenue, Farmingdale, NY, at 11:30 AM, on July 2, 2022, with interment to follow.
