Thomas Bartsch Obituary

Bartsch - Thomas, formerly of Valley Stream, passed away on Monday after a courageous battle with cancer at the age of 81. Tom was a loving husband to his wife, Blanche of 59 years. He leaves behind his daughter, Christine, son-in-law, John, grandchildren, Nicholas (Lizzy), Toni-Ann (Christopher), John, and great-granddaughter Emilia; as well as daughter, Karen (Joe), grandchildren, Joseph, Travis and Nicole, and great-granddaughter Giavonna. He is predeceased by his parents, Frederick and Doris and twin brother Eugene. Tom honorably served in the U.S. Navy, aboard the Franklin D. Roosevelt. He proudly served as a New York City Firefighter in Ladder 105, Brooklyn, NY, for 22 years. Since the age of 20, Tom has played an active role in the Valley Stream Fire Department, rising through the ranks to Chief in 1978. Continuing his life of service, Tom held the role of Chief Fire Inspector for the Village of Valley Stream for over 30 years. He will be remembered for his contagious smile, consistent leadership and unwavering loyalty to those he loved. Tom enjoyed quality time with family, golfing with friends and visits to his second home in Cairo, NY. Tom was a man of intellect, integrity and loyalty and proudly led a life of service. He passionately embodied his favorite quote, "Love what you do and you'll never work a day in your life". He will be missed by all. Services will be held at the Lieber

Funeral Home, June 5, from 1pm-4pm and 7pm-9pm. Funeral mass will be June 6, 10:45am, Holy Name of Mary Church.

Tom was what I know as "A GIANT OF A MAN "..." A GIANT OFA FIREMAN "...words could not describe the affect he has had on my life...my firefighting life, especially in Ladder 105 ( the West Point of the FDNY )...my family life & my personal life ! I LOVE THIS MAN !
