Dear Westerlind family, I am sorry for your loss. Captain Wayne was a great Captain, husband, father, grandfather, friend, and human being. I knew him years ago when my dad had a boat at Captree too. I was a young kid and was the mate then. There were days I went fishing on Capt. Waynes boat and he was always gracious and good to me. I also knew Capt. Rod. He had the best laugh ever. Always happy. I knew Capt. Fish Along With Rich as well. The whole Westerlind family was a class act. They along with the Josephs were Captree Royalty! It was a great way to grow up as a kid. I miss those days. I am sure Capt. Wayne is with all the other great Captains now and in Gods hand. I am proud to say I knew him. May God Bless him and the whole Westerlind family.

My friend of over 70 years, Wayne was a loving family man, classmate, teammate, Navy Korean War veteran, great sea captain who got me my first high school job at DeGarmo's shipyard, and my best friend. We had many memorable experiences and exciting adventures together, some not suitable for publication! When I was in the Army overseas and Wayne had been discharged from the Navy, he'd visit my mother, put on a pot of coffee and borrow my jackets and ties for dates! He was Mom's favorite. We wish Betty and the family peace and comfort with their loving, fond memories of unforgettable Wayne, my best friend. With tears in my eyes, God Bless, old friend.

I still think I can just pick up the phone to tell you a joke or talk about old times. I will miss you everyday. You were more like a brother than a cousin to me. Please give a hug to my brothers and Brad who I spoke to 2 days prior. Catch a big one and have fun with the family. I´m keeping an eye on Betty for you. You´ll be miss everyday. I love you Love Rich
