In Memory of Wilfredo ~ (Debra Estep)

December 3, 2008

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Wilfredo, but I am remembering
his service and sacrifice. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

To The Urbina Family,
I used to work with Wil in Lynbrook. I only visited his grave recently when I visited my grandparents grave at the same cemetery. I took a picture of the grave, showed it to my boss and coworkers and were surprised that I took the time to visit. I'm truly sorry about Wil even thought it's been three years.

I don't pretend to know what to say or do that would bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON (KIA on 07/06/07) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

To the Urbina family,

I went to St. Philip Neri with your son, he was a year older than me. I had heard through family friends that he had been killed in Iraq. I didn't realize that the war would touch me so personally -- I still remember us playing tag or just running in the Big Yard. I searched for his name on the internet, only to discover that he had also been part of the 9/11 recovery effort. God bless him and all of you. My prayers are with you.

I was watching youtube, and I almost lost it when I saw a pic of this young man, and I said to myself, my God, that looks like my friend Wilfredo from the Air Force. He always did have such a sweet baby face, and I dismissed it. Then, I visited the Washington post website, and looked up Urbina's name and my worst fears came true. It was him, and it mentioned he passed away in late November 2004. I am so very sorry and extend my deepest sympathies to the family of Urbina. What brings me joy is that I have tons of pictures of Urbina that I took when we were in "tech school" at Shepherd Air Force base back in 1994, and I hope to be able to mail these to the family. What I remember most about him was his high energy, and he always went out of his way to help others. I lost touch with Urbina after tech school, but I will always remember him.

Even though Wilfredo has been gone more than 1yr. ago, our hearts still ache. This past Tuesday he would have turned 31yrs old, and at home we shared memories about him and remembered what a great person he was. I hope his memories can also console his parents' and sisters'hearts as it did ours. We still think about Will, and will never stop missing him.

I met Will at Cardinal Hayes High School in the bronx. We were on the soccer team together and I recalled having so much fun with him. We lost most of our games, but we had lots of fun. In our last games as seniors I recalled returning to school and talking to him about the future. He said he wanted to be a marine, and I remeber thinking that he would be a good marine because he was a caring guy. He is a hero, and I will always remember him...

Hope is what happens when you first see a light, just a distant, small star in the darkest of nights.

Hope is what happens when a wound starts to heal, whether skin deep or soul deep, you begin to feel real.

Hope is what happens when war turns to peace, after everyone prayed that the fighting would cease.

Hope is what happens when clouds finally clear, troubled thunder falls silent-courageous whispers you hear.

Hope is what happens when fresh bread is baking, and what hungers your heart, will one day stop aching.

Hope is what happens when the pain eases a bit, and deep down inside, you find your true grit.

Hope is what happens as long as we breathe for although it takes time, the sorrow will leave.

Hope is what happens long after the pain.

Hope is what happens - again and again.

Wilfredo will be forever missed.

Your cousins, Emili and Chris Cruz.
