Brackie Byrd, 72, of Glenwood, Indiana, passed away peacefully at home on November 4, 2024, surrounded by his beloved family. Born on August 4, 1952, in Clay County, Kentucky, to Robert and Bessie Byrd. Brackie's life was marked by kindness, music, and devotion to those he cherished.
On December 1, 1973, Brackie married Kathleen, his soulmate, and began a lifelong journey filled with love. Together, they shared over fifty years of cherished memories and built a legacy of family and faith.
For 30 years, Brackie worked with Greene Manufacturing before joining the Connersville Parks Department, where he took pride in maintaining the local parks. Yet, his true passion was music. As a talented rhythm guitarist, he found joy in sharing melodies with family and friends.
Brackie's strength, compassion, and resilience were constants, even in the face of loss. He was preceded in death by his sons, Larry and Brackie Steven; his beloved bonus daughter Tonya Bergen; his parents, Robert and Bessie Byrd; Melvin and Mary Higbie; brothers, Kennies, Bernard, Gilbert, Marce, Earl Byrd, Willie Bishop, Danny Lutz, Darrell Harrison, Robert and Michael Higbie; and sisters, Reba Bishop, Donna Lutz, Kathy Sue Byrd and Vicky Griffin. Through every challenge, Brackie remained a steady, loving presence.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Kathleen; his children, Melissa and Richard Dye; and treasured grandchildren, Meleah Dye (Caleb Dolphin), Quinlan Dye. His family circle extends to two "bonus daughters," Stephanie Greene and Mandy (Lisa Jobe) Abernathy; his brothers, Troy (Nannie) Byrd, Melvin (Bev) Higbie, and Marvin Higbie; and his sisters, Lola Byrd, Martha (Ernie) Nobbe, Patty Keenan, Georgetta Higbie, Maggie (Mike) Pitstick, and Valerie Higbie, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to AseraCare for their exceptional care over the past seven months. Their compassion, professionalism, and unwavering support provided comfort to Brackie and strength to his family in these final months.
