"The jump was a go" on March 17, 2010, for Master Sgt. Retired Albert G. (Buddy) Belisle passed away after a long illness, leaving this TDY on Earth for his permanent duty station in Heaven.
Born October 1940 in Roanoke, N.C., he moved to Dothan, Ala., at the age of 2 and attended city schools of Dothan. He joined the Army at 17 and proudly served his country as a member of the elite Special Forces receiving his Green Beret from President John F. Kennedy. His tour of duty lasted 24 years and took him to numerous and exotic locations. After retiring from the Army, he worked as a dispatcher for the Panama City Fire Department. He also received his Associate of Arts degree in communications from GCCC. He then worked as a mail handler for the U.S. Postal Service in Panama City, where he also retired. During his service to his country, he earned the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Army and Navy Commendation Medals and numerous other medals and citations.
Buddy is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, India Johnston; and three children, Alberte "Hap" of Honolulu, Hawaii, Alicia (Dave) Fantini of Collegeville, Pa., and Scott (Katie) of Panama City, Fla.; three grandchildren, David, Savannah and Matthew; three siblings, Michael, Peter and Suzanne McDade; two loving sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Emily (Harry, LTC Ret. US Army) Warnberg, Paula Jane Pettit and Ed Johnston; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his father, Albert Oscar "Hap" Belisle; mother, Agnes Wynn; and sister, Mary Belisle.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 27, 2010, in the chapel of Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Thornton and David Lloyd officiating. Interment will follow at Lynn Haven Cemetery with full military honors. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 26, 2010, at the funeral home.
