Charles Barton Obituary
After graduating from Bay High School in 1954, Bart attended the University of Florida, where he was member of Delta Chi Fraternity, and graduated in 1959 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy. He then moved to Bonifay to work at and later purchase Bonifay Drug Company. He practiced pharmacy for 50 years.
Bart was a lifetime member of the Florida Pharmacy Association and was the pharmacy consultant for 25 years for the Holmes County Hospital and the Bonifay Nursing Home.
In 1989, Bart went to work with the Dept. of Corrections as a pharmacist and later as pharmacy consultant in Region 1. He was Employee of the Year in 1991 for Holmes Correctional Institute and State Employee of the Year in 1999 for the Department of Corrections Health Services.
Bart was always active in the community. He served on the Board of Trustees at Chipola Junior College from 1968-1987; Board of Directors, President, Vice-President and Secretary of Life Management of Northwest Florida from 1996-2002. In 1978, he was named Bonifay's Citizen of the Year.
For 57 years, Bart was a member of First Baptist Church of Bonifay, where he faithfully served in many capacities over the years. He was a Deacon, named Deacon Emeritus in 2014. Head Usher. and served on various committees.
Bart was preceded in death by his parents, John Thomas Barton and Doris Fussell Barton. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marianne Dannelley Barton; two sons, Scott Barton of Perry and his wife, Babs, and Dr. Philip Barton and his wife, Tina, of Ocala. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Brooke Barton, Hayden Hagberg, Janie Barton, and Daniel Barton; and one great-grandson, Reid Hagberg.
Funeral services will be at First Baptist Church of Bonifay on Wednesday, May 10, at 3 p.m. Visitation will be from 1 until 3 p.m. with Sims Funeral Home directing.
