David Wishart Obituary

Air Force Chief Master Sgt. David Wishart (retired) of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., passed away Monday, May 3, 2010. He was 88.

Born and raised in Lumberton, N.C., Wishart married Beatrice Henry of Dunn, N.C., in 1942. He joined the Army Air Corps in 1943 and served during World War II at a training base in Oklahoma. After a brief return to civilian life, he rejoined the new U.S. Air Force in 1947 and was stationed in Hokkaido and Masawa, Japan. He then served in Tennessee, Germany, Maryland and at Eglin Air Force Base.

The couple moved to Fort Walton Beach in 1971 and Wishart retired from the Air Force in 1973. In retirement, Wishart became active in the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks Lodge 1795 on Okaloosa Island and served as secretary of the lodge for 22 years. Wishart also was a member of the Krewe of Bowlegs for many years, and was a member of the American Legion.

He is survived by Beatrice, his wife of 67 years; and was predeceased by a son, George. He also is survived by two sons, Raymond and wife, Diane (Pinke), of Panama City, Fla., and Robert of Oxnard, Calif., and wife, Judith Dugan; and four grandchildren, including Rachelle Hundley of Orlando, Fla., and Rebekah Wishart of Panama City.

Ray, Diane and Rebekah Wishart all are teachers in the Bay District Schools system.

Services will begin at 2 p.m. Friday, May 7, 2010, at McLaughlin Mortuary in Fort Walton Beach.

In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial donation to a charity of the donor's choice.
