Gloria Jackson Obituary


Gloria Ann Jackson, daughter of Author Eugene Jackson and the late Ethel Overstreet Jackson, was born Nov. 11, 1951, in Thomas County, Ga., and passed this life Monday, April 5, 2010.

She attended Thomas County public schools. She was employed by Archbold Hospital until her health failed. She moved to Panama City, Fla., in September 2001 and lived there until her death. In Panama City, she joined Love Center Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Rufus Woods. She served faithfully on the Senior Usher Board. Sister Gloria Jackson was a dedicated and courageous soldier in the army of the Lord. She loved God, her family, church and humanity.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Ethel Overstreet Jackson; and one brother, Willie C. Jackson. She leaves to cherish her memories and celebrate her life, two sons, Floyd "Pookie" Roberts (Shena) of Panama City, Fla., and Rashad Dewayne Jackson (Jessica) of Thomasville, Ga.; special friend, Charlie J. Smith of Panama City, Fla.; loving father, Author Eugene Jackson of Thomasville, Ga.; six brothers, Oscar Jackson (Joyce) of Thomasville, Ga., Larry Jackson of Thomasville, Ga., Eugene Jackson (Daisy) of Thomasville, Ga., Paul Jackson of Thomasville, Ga., Jackie Walker (NaTonya) of Atlanta, and Marvin Walker (Roberta) of Lithonia, Ga.; five sisters, Katie Jackson of Thomasville, Ga., Emma Jackson of Panama City, Fla., Yvonne Ivey of Thomasville, Ga., Paula Jackson of Thomasville, Ga., and Eleanor L. Wright (Randolph) of College Park, Ga.; grandchildren, Jaylon Roberts, Zamorin Hills and Romaro Hills of Panama City, Fla., Rashad Jackson Jr., Jaylen and Aniya Bates of Thomasville, Ga.; godsister, Pauline Bright of Panama City, Fla.; two goddaughters, Shun Graham and Sylenthia Demeritt, both of Panama City, Fla.; four godsons, Carlos Duncan, Paul Duncan, George Howard and Keldrick Pettis, all of Panama City, Fla.; special nephew, Stonewall Jackson of Thomasville, Ga.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, neighbors and friends.

Funeral services for Gloria Jackson will begin at 3 p.m. Friday, April 9, 2010, at Love Center Missionary Baptist Church with Dr. Rufus L. Wood officiating pastor. Public visitation will begin today from 1 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. The body will lie in state one hour before funeral services Friday at the church.
