Kun Lu Obituary
Frank was born May 8, 1964 and grew up in the rural area of Songzi, Hubei, China. A driven, hard-working student, Frank was among the best and brightest in his generation. He completed his undergraduate work at the Wuhan University in Hubei, China and received his master's degree from the Shanghai Cell Biology Institute, Chinese Academy of Sciences. He furthered his education with a PhD from the Tor Vergata School in Rome, Italy, specializing in Hematology & Immunology and did post-doctoral work at the Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo, NY. Dr. Lu was an excellent scientist. However, he eventually found his calling in patient care in his 30s. With his gifted talent, dedication, determination and courage, he started to pursue his medical degree from Saba University in the Netherland Antilles, completed his residence in Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland, and his specialty fellowship in the National Cancer Institute / National Institutes of Health.
Dr. Lu moved to Lynn Haven in 2009 coming from Washington, DC. He became one of the finest medical oncologist / hematologists in the area, helping his patients ever since. He was always passionate about his work. Frank was kind, considerate and sincerely cared about his patients. He was available for personal counseling in all hours, making him such a special doctor, such a beautiful person. He will be sorely missed by all of us who had the privilege to know him.
Apart from his love of medicine, Frank also enjoyed playing chess and Go. He was united in marriage on May 9, 1993 in Bonn, Germany to his wife, Huiyi Miao who resides in Lynn Haven. He is survived by his daughter, Lucia Lu of Chicago, IL; his son, Alexander Miao Lu of Gaithersburg, MD and his three sisters, Yi-e Lu, Jun Lu and Jichao Yi all of Wuhan, China.
Friends will be received Wednesday from 1-3pm at the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home where funeral services will take place that afternoon at 3pm. Interment will take place privately in Maryland at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the Prevent Cancer Foundation, 1600 Duke St Ste 500, Alexandria, VA 22314

I worked with Dr Lu during our Internal Medicine residency in Baltimore , MD.
He was very polite and helpful and a thorough professional . He could be counted on with any doubts or queries and he loved the science of medicine and loved to teach and help understand.
I have always admired his sense of hard work , commitment and his perseverance towards his goals!
I came across this news when I was feeling nostalgic in the New year 2020 and wanted to go online and check where all my colleagues were and how they were doing , many settled and happy in their practice and I was happy that we all made it this far and then this news hit me like a shock wave ! Very saddened and at the same time humbled to realize how short our time is in the world. But in this short time Dr Lu has been admired and respected and loved by all and I feel proud to see that ! God bless his soul and his lovely family forever !

In the process of trying to refer a friend to Dr. Lu today September 7, 2018, I found out about the tragic loss of Dr. Frank Lu. I was under Dr. Lu's care in 2012. He was an amazing doctor. No nonsense and straight forward with answers to my concerns, but always very caring. Making sure his patients were well taken care of. He was always there whenever you needed him. I am very sad that a brilliant soul is no longer there to help, heal and support those of us going through difficult health issues. Dr. Lu was loved, respected and very bright and brilliant soul. God Bless him and his family.

Today August 1,2018 I just found out about the passing of my Doctor. I was so deeply sadden. I was checking all doctors appointments for the month of August. I had an appointment coming up but now I don't know who is taken his patients. He was a very caring Doctor he always had a wonderful personality. Words can't describe how sad I felt about Dr. Lu's passing away. Dr. Lu was among one of the brightest classmates I had at Wuhan University, China. He was always very polite and kind. He will always live in our hearts. My deepest condolences to his family.

Appalled and saddened for days that Dr. Lu passed away. While being at NCI, he was one of brilliant fellows who cared greatly for patients. After leaving for his practice in Florida, he prioritized patient's interest and referred patients to NCI for consideration for clinical trials and/or best treatments. This is profoundly reflective of his kindness and professionalism. He will be truly missed by colleagues in Maryland.

My Husband and I are deeply saddened to here TODAY that Dr. Lu passed away. He was my Husbands Dr. for a short illness that he helped heal. My husband may have never known what was wrong with him if not for Dr. Lus' expertise. His bedside manner was like no other. He was a true Gentleman who we knew really cared for his patients! Dr Lu will be ever so missed. He was so light on his feet and a smile on his face ever time I visit him for my appointment. He treated me for breast cancer and gave me great hope for the future. I was very saddend to hear about his death and to have left us all so suddenly. Life is truly very precious and Dr. Lu has left his foot prints in our hearts. I'm so very saddened to hear of the passing of Dr Lu from his labour to Reward because it seems so premature/taken away from us too soon. He was my Doctor. A Brilliant mind, warm heart,and had THE BEST Bedside Manner of any Doctor that I've ever had, with the exception of Dr John Benton, and the late Dr Elbert Fisher. To know him was to love him. I trusted and respected him because out of all the Doctors that I'd seen, he was the only Doctor to discover that I had Thalassemia. I don't know any other like him. Dr. Lu got me uneventfully through chemo for breast cancer in 2012. More importantly, Dr, Lu was the reason why my husband Don, who had kidney cancer was with me for 7 more wonderful years instead of only 2. You can never place a value on the precious gift of time.

My heart goes out to not only Dr Lu's family and employees who were so close to him, but to the many, many patients (including myself) who will miss him terribly. Dr. Lu had just become my Oncologist. I had breast cancer at the close of 2016. I was referred to Dr. Lu by my surgeon. He met with my husband and I. He did not rush thru the appointment. Must have stayed with us about 45 mins., explaining to us about
the Meds. for breast cancer I am taking. I felt like I was being taken care of by an angel. We were truly shocked and saddened when we heard of
his death. . His family can Know that he was truly a wonderful Dr. and person
and I knew that after only one visit.

I have known Dr. Lu for nine years. I am a Nurse that has had the great honor of working with him. Kind, compassionate, Brilliant, funny man who loved Life and His patients. He always had the time to explain to the patients and nurses how it worked and what he expected from the treatments. He wanted to know everyone on a personal basis. Giving out HOPE, Love and Encouragement with so much compassion. I recruited Dr Lu to Panama City to join Dr Nanfro's practice, where we worked together for years. He left to start his own very successful practice, but we met back up to merge and formed Florida Cancer Affiliates North Florida with US Oncology (w the Mahmood's & Dr Weber). We disagreed from time to time but, that's business (his quote). He was highly intelligent, full of energy, passionate, challenged you, made you earn it...but most of all Dr Lu loved his patients with all his heart. He had a great sense of humor, had a warm heart, was a gracious host. We worked on and off together for 8+ years. He's gone way too early and it's not fair and it stinks. I pray for his family, his patients, and his (our) staff & colleagues. He was a good man. Rest In Peace Dr Lu.

Dr. Lu was always so full of life!! He was incredibly unique, loving, generous, brilliant, unselfish, available 24/7, believer in a higher power and in positive thinking. He worked tirelessly for his patients and became friends with each family and so much more. It breaks my heart to know he will not be here to go to if needed but I know he is safely home in heaven where suffering and sickness do not exist. My husband, Allyn, was a patient of Dr. Lu's for 2 years. I can honestly say that I don't know how we could have gotten through without Dr. Lu's compassion. He was a brilliant and caring soul.
