William Atkinson Obituary
A native of Wilmington, N.C., Sam is survived by his wife of 41 years, Rose; two sons, Eric, of Panama City, and Wade (Becky) and grandchildren, Nathaniel and Sophie, of Ooltewah, Tenn.; his mother, Virginia Ruth; two sisters and a brother, Carolyn Midgette, Alma Jean (Gil) Irving and Howard (Dee), of Wilmington, N.C.; a brother, Ray (Carole), of Hondo, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews. He loved his family, and his grandchildren were the joy of his life.
Sam served honorably in the U.S. Air Force, retiring as a master sergeant. He returned to Panama City, where he worked for several years at Bay Medical Center as a bio-med supervisor and made many loyal friends.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Wilson Funeral Home. A memorial service will be in Wilmington, N.C., at a future date.
Those desiring may make memorial donations to Covenant Hospice, 107 W. 19th St., Panama City, FL 32405.

I am so sorry to hear the news about Sam. My deepest condolences to the family.

Atkinson family, I am so sorry for your loss. Sam was not only a good friend, also a coworker at BMC, for many years.He will truly be missed. Mary and I will continue to keep you and your family in our prayers. May you find peace just knowing Sam is no longer suffering.
