SHAMOKIN - Alice Ann Bainbridge, 89, of Shamokin, went to her savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, Thursday, Dec. 9, 2021, at Geisinger-Shamokin Area Community Hospital with her family at her side.
She was born Nov. 22, 1932, at Shamokin Miners Hospital, a daughter of the late Thomas and Ruth (Hocking) Whalen. She had been a resident of the Lincoln Towers after living most of her adult life in the Bunker Hill section of Shamokin.
Alice married Leonard R. Bainbridge, Jan. 6, 1951, at St. Joseph's Church, in Coal Township. They had celebrated 56 years of marriage before Leonard's passing April 18, 2007.
Alice attended St. Edward's School and Shamokin Area High School.
Alice, or Ann, as most of her family and friends called her, worked for the Shamokin Area School District as a custodian at "the new high school." She always had a lot of pride in her work and spoke of it often. She retired after 27 years of service.
She enjoyed cooking and being with her family as much as possible. Her home was always well kept and crystal clean. She was not a flower type of person, but kept lots of pictures throughout her home of family, friends and her savior, Jesus Christ.
She is survived by her four children, a daughter, Susan and her husband, Robert Dobeck, of Shamokin; and three sons, Robert "Bob" and his wife, Alicia, of Panama City Beach, Florida, Leonard "Mike" and his wife, Ruth, of Numidia, and Rick and his wife, Sally, of Shamokin; her three granddaughters, Rachel (Bainbridge) Chicoine, Jessica Bainbridge and Abbi Nicholson; three grandsons, Christopher Bainbridge, Joshua Bainbridge and Logan Nicholson; a great-granddaughter, Alivia Bainbridge; and three great-grandsons, Bradley Bainbridge, Trenton Bainbridge and Gabriel Chicoine.
She was preceded in death by a son-in-law, John Nicholson; two sisters, Dorothy Ann O'Neal and Helen "Jane" Deitrich; and two brothers, William G. Whalen and Thomas "Tim" Whalen.
There will be no formal services held per Alice's wishes, and in lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the Shamokin-Coal Township Public Library.
