NORTHAMPTON - David Michael Philips, 74, of Northampton, and formerly of Coal Township, passed away Thursday, April 22, 2021, at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest.
He was the husband of Marie (Klokis) Philips, who survives, and with whom he celebrated more than 50 years of marriage, and the son of the late David Thomas and Olga (Brechun) Philips, of Marion Heights.
Dave was a 1964 graduate of the former Mount Carmel Catholic High School, where he excelled in football, baseball and basketball.
He attended the University of Scranton, receiving his Bachelor of Science in sociology, in 1969. During his time at Scranton, he was a four-year starter for the club football team.
Following college, Dave worked as a caseworker for the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare for 30 years.
He also coached the Trevorton AA youth baseball team with his close friend, Helms Buchman. After retirement, he spent his time working at Jepko's Three Ponds Golf Course, in Elysburg, in the Pro Shop and on the greens - a job he truly loved. He also enjoyed countless golf outings and yearly golf trips to Myrtle Beach with his golf buddies.
He was a member of St. Jane Frances de Chantal Catholic Church, Easton, and the Willow Brook Golf League, Northampton. He was a former member of the Crown Lanes bowling league, Shamokin, an EMT with the Shamokin Emergency Squad and a volunteer firefighter for the City of Shamokin.
Dave was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was very passionate about sports, spending much of his time guiding and coaching his children and grandchildren, while attending every family sporting event. He enjoyed many of the Lehigh Valley's sporting events, festivals and attractions, including Phantoms ice hockey, Iron Pigs baseball, CelticFest, MusikFest, the Lehigh Valley Zoo and many more.
Dave had a big smile, great sense of humor and would always be the first to help anyone in need. The void left by his passing is impossible to fill, but he has given us a lifetime of precious memories to treasure.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, Marie, include two sons, Brian Philips and his wife, Allison, and David Kyle Philips and his wife, Kelley; two granddaughters, Caitlyn and Riley; two sisters, Donna Midway and Diane Lepley and her husband, John; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
