Dennis Hendricks Obituary

DOVER — Dennis E. Hendricks, 64, of 3715 Fox Chase Drive, Dover, and formerly of Shamokin, passed away at 7:25 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 6, 2016, at WellSpan York Hospital, York.

Dennis was born in Danville Aug. 2, 1952, a son of the late Charmaine L. (Culp) and Edward W. Hendricks.

Dennis graduated in 1970 from Shamokin Area High School.

He was of the Protestant faith.

Dennis was married and together with Wanda L. Knokey Hendricks for 36 years.

Dennis was a talented photographer, excellent drummer and excelled with anything electronic. He enjoyed being a ham radio and C.B. radio operator. Dennis began a career in broadcasting in 1968 at Shamokin Radio Station WISL as disc jockey "Denny Edwards." As one of the youngest DJ's in the country, he would entertain the listeners with daily doses of music and the daily news.

In the winter of 1973, his path changed direction. Dennis began work in the television industry. He worked at WSBA-TV in York as a producer-director-videographer from January 1974 until March 1996. Always a perfectionist with his work, his career moved forward, placing him at WPMJ FOX 43 in York.

In addition to his loving wife Wanda, he is survived by a son, Dennis E. Hendricks II and his wife, Maria J., of Coal Township; a sister, Sandi L. Harris and her husband, Joseph, of Lawrenceville, New Jersey; a brother, Brian L. Hendricks and his wife, Jennifer, of Coal Township; a step-granddaughter, Angelica Krieger, of Shamokin; a niece; and nephews.

Arch St. at Maple Street, Coal Township, with the Rev. Jean Eckrod officiating. Family and friends are invited to call at the visitation from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday at the James Kelley Funeral Home. Interment will follow the service at Northumberland Memorial Park, Sunbury.
