COAL TOWNSHIP - Dennis R. Schwartz, 71, of Coal Township, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2018, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
He was born May 3, 1947, in Trevorton, a son of the late Ralph M. and Ethel I. (Shipe) Schwartz.
Dennis was married May 7, 1971, in St. Stephen's Church, Shamokin, to the former Rosetta Lushinski, who preceded him in death Feb. 20, 2014.
He was a 1965 graduate of Trevorton High School.
He served in the U.S. Army as a SP5 from 1966 to 1970, and was stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War.
"Den" was a lifelong tractor-trailer driver, working for Allen Clark Poulty, Irish Valley, and then retiring from Fleetwood Motor Homes, Paxinos, for which he drove cross country for many years.
Den was inducted into the Bernie Romanoski Hall of Fame, playing football as a right halfback for Trevorton High School.
Den was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed going to hunting and fishing camps with friends. He was known as a great story-teller among friends.
He is survived by a son, Dennis E. Schwartz, of Coal Township; a grandson, Alex Schwartz; two brothers, Jim Schwartz and his wife, Janet, of Trevorton, and Ken Schwartz and his wife, Martha, of Greenville, South Carolina; two sisters, Diane Brosius and her husband, Denny, of Navada, Texas, and Rosanne Marquette and her husband, Jeff, of Trevorton Road; and several nieces and nephews.
SCHWARTZ - Dennis R. Schwartz, 71, of Coal Township. At Dennis' request, there will be no calling hours. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. The Robert G. Foust Jr. Funeral Home, 841 W. Shamokin St., Trevorton, is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorial contributions can be made to Zerbe Township Recreation Committee, c/o Deborah Hetzendorf, 425 Scott St., Trevorton 17881.
